Calrec has been a supporter of Overgate Hospice for many years. Overgate is a local independent charity that aims to improve the quality of life for adults in Calderdale with a life-limiting illness.

As with other charities, this year has been a difficult one for Overgate as Covid-19 restrictions have taken their toll on the ability to fundraise.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of local businesses to continue caring for the people of Calderdale and the Covid-10 restrictions are still having a huge impact on our income,” says Becki Marren, Business Partnerships Manager at Overgate Hospice.

“We are so grateful to the team at Calrec for their continued support of Overgate Hospice. This gift of kindness will mean that the patients and families in our care will be surrounded by love, making this Christmas as special as possible for them.”

Calrec hosted several socially-distanced events, including Overgate Christmas Jumper Day (thanks for voting if you voted!), a raffle, a pre-packed treats sale and the 12 Days of Calrec campaign across our social channels, and amongst it all, we’ve raised £500 for Overgate. It bookends a difficult year, which started with Calrec’s support of its other official charitable cause, the homeless charity Smartmove, with a hardy bunch of Calrec employees rough sleeping in the middle of winter, and it ended with woolly jumpers!

“Calrec has long been part of the Calderdale community,” said General Manager Sid Stanley.“We believe it is important to give back to the local community and to help those less fortunate than us. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising activities for Overgate Hospice this month and congratulations to all our lucky raffle winners!”
