Type R is a set of modular mixing console blocks which use standard networking hardware to sit on a SMPTE-2110 compliant backbone.
Type R’s three hardware panels can create a variety of configurations and its flexible IP core enables broadcasters to flex their systems as their requirements change.
Type R users also benefit from virtual working and automated workflows. Type R’s remote working facilities provide automated programming with real-time adjustment of external factors via a web user interface (Calrec Assist) or via highly portable and dedicated hardware for TV and Radio.

Type R makes it easy to enjoy the benefits of an IP infrastructure without the risks. Here are the top 5 reasons why you need a Type R audio console.
Type R is a modular console that consists of just three panels: a fader panel, a small soft panel (SSP) and a large soft panel (LSP). These simple building blocks are all you need to create a completely unique system.
Available with four DSP pack sizes, Type R can flex extra muscle whenever you need it to. DSP packs can be upgraded on the fly and one Type R DSP core can power up to three independent mixing engines, which means you can expand your operations without purchasing additional hardware.
Type R’s soft panels can be freely reconfigured in situ, and controls can be saved and recalled between shows. Hardware elements can be plugged and unplugged over POE, and even hand carried to new locations.
Type R is designed around a native SMPTE 2110 IP backbone and uses commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) switches. This means that Type R is already compatible with standard IP networking equipment.
Type R users can use Type R remotely by logging into the Calrec Assist web GUI to virtualize operations. This allows operators to mix directly from their laptops, or they can use Type R’s highly portable hardware elements to provide physical controls wherever they are.
Our FREE online Type R training is designed to get you up and running quickly and with confidence.
There are 20 modules which will take between one and two hours to complete and cover hardware overviews, I/O, routing channels, mix minus, bussing and monitoring.
The short step-by-step training videos highlight the main features and help you set up these features on your audio console.
